Pine Level Senior Citizens

The Pine Level Senior Citizens was organized in July, 2006 by the Town Board and a community of volunteers. In addition to the Town of Pine Level’s financial support, the citizens of the area greatly support the group’s endeavors. Senior citizens from Pine Level and the surrounding area are invited the second Wednesday of the month to the Pine Level American Legion Building to a variety of activities which are planned by a committee of six volunteers. The gathering for fun, fellowship, and information begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends with a light lunch about noon.

Each gathering begins with a brief devotion brought by an area minister or lay volunteer. An invited guest brings information on a subject of interest to senior citizens. Various community volunteers bring entertainment in the form of music, dance, games, fashion shows, bingo, etc. The Johnston County Council on Aging allows a registered nurse to come every other month to hold the Foot Clinic. Door prizes are donated and given away at each meeting by the people who attend the meetings, area businesses, the Woman’s Club, and community volunteers. Birthdays and anniversaries are recognized monthly.

The Smithfield and Johnston County library Book Mobile leaves a variety of books for individuals who enjoy reading to check out.

Lunches are provided by the area’s civic organizations – Pine Level Fire Department, Pine Level American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries – as well as the town’s churches, businesses, supportive individuals, seniors who attend the meetings, and the Senior Citizens’ Committee.

Several times during the year opportunities are given to attend van/bus trips out of town. Some trips have been to the Billy Graham Library, Mt. Airy- the home of Andy Griffith, the Raleigh Farmers Market, Durham’s Sarah P. Duke Gardens, New Bern’s Tryon Palace and Gardens, NC State Fair, Greensboro’s Barn Dinner Theater, and the Kenly Tobacco-Farm Museum Hog Killing.

Tickets are arranged for the Rudy Theater’s Christmas Show and the Johnston Community College Music Shows.

The monthly gatherings welcome all Pine Level Area Senior Citizens. Come and bring a friend every month!
